Stretching from the heart of East Africa to the shores of the
Indian Ocean, the Tanzania–Burundi Standard Gauge
Railway (SGR) Project – Phase II is forging more than a
physical link between two nations: it’s laying tracks for
regional transformation. Anchored in the Central Transport
Corridor and centered on the Port of Dar es Salaam, this
ambitious joint infrastructure venture between Tanzania,
Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo aims to
power integration, unlock trade, and ignite economic
growth from mine to market and farm to port.
Phase II focuses on the key cross-border section connecting Uvinza in Tanzania to Musongati in Burundi, including
the intermediate stretch to Malagarasi. Combined, these
three segments form an integral part of the phased development of the regional SGR network and represent a
